Family Literacy Program Helps Children Succeed

Dedicated volunteers provide home based tutoring to over 100 school children.

Children receive weekly assistance throughout the school year as well as during summer vacation.

Feedback from the schools is positive:  children are flourishing and parents are more involved!

We have 40 students on our waiting list - learn how you can volunteer.

Reach & Teach

We provide tutoring in the homes of the families which enables us to demonstrate good work habits and the importance of education in securing a better future. Tutors help the children once a week with their homework, school projects, and basic literacy skills. We also invite the parents to the schools for weekly adult English lessons.

Summer Program

Volunteers continue to visit the families once each week during the summer program featuring books and information about our local beach environment. Our eight week program closes with a field trip hosted by the NC Coastal Federation. The summer program keeps our children reading while exploring the world around them.

Volunteer

We need help! We currently have 35 dedicated tutors but need many more as we have 40 students on a waiting list. One hour a week offers help and hope to families who are trying to navigate our educational system. No Spanish necessary - most of our children speak English. We provide training and introductions to get you started.

Sponsor a Child

Make a real difference. Sponsor a child for a full year for just $120, or $10 a month. This helps us provide weekly home based tutoring visits as well as a special eight week summer program. We are struggling to keep up with the demand and we truly appreciate whatever you can contribute. Just click on the "Donate" button above.
